Gift Aid
As part of our continued drive towards reducing our clients costs Telsolutions are helping UK charities register their past and present donors for Gift Aid using an oral declaration over the telephone. From April 2008 UK charities are entitled to 20% tax reclaim from the HMRC on donations made by UK tax payers (assuming they've paid that amount of tax). Unfortunately, charities often miss out on this extra income because it is too expensive to process the paperwork on small donations. With this problem in mind we looked at how new voice messaging technology can help.


Automated Gift Aid registration
HMRC have now approved systems that will allow charities to use an automated outbound courtesy call to orally register their donor’s declaration for Gift Aid. After confirming identity the call simply asks the donor whether they would like to register for Gift Aid. They do this by either saying "YES" or by pressing 1 on their telephone key-pad. A final question simply confirms that they have paid enough tax to reclaim this amount. If an answer-machine is detected a message is left requesting them to call back where they can register using an automated IVR system. The report we send back contains the name and telephone number of your donor which is sent off to HMRC Charities for processing.
